3 years later, that PDF-only blueprint finally bit me in the ass
Back in 2021, a client in Austin handed me a set of blueprints that were scanned into a single PDF and told me to just work from that. I kept asking for the original CAD files but they said the engineer who made them left the company and the files were gone. Last week I needed to pull one specific dimension for a fence post layout on a redo of that same property. The scan was so blurry at that spot that 80 feet looked like 8.0 feet, and I nearly ordered the wrong post spacing. I ended up having to drive out there with a tape measure and re-measure the whole back line, which took about 4 hours. Now I refuse to start any job without either the native files or a clean plot, no exceptions. Has anyone else gotten burned by relying on old scanned prints instead of the actual digital source?
