Update: I said cast iron was overrated for 6 years, then a $3 yard sale pan in Tulsa proved me wrong
I always rolled my eyes at the cast iron crowd and stuck with my nonstick pans, but this rusty skillet from a yard sale cleaned up in 20 minutes with steel wool and it sears better than anything I own. Now I'm eyeing a Dutch oven and wondering if I've been wrong about other old stuff too, what's something you wrote off that actually worked out?
Tulsa yard sales are slept on, I found a 1970s Wagner Ware there for $2 that out-sears my $150 pan. Old cast iron got thinner and lighter before the 1960s, so a lot of that "new stuff is better" belief is really about bad modern pans, not old ones.
