That three day stretch in July where my entire batch of kombucha went bad

I left my second ferment bottles sitting by the window for 3 days in a heatwave and every single one of them exploded. The sediment was like a science experiment gone wrong. Has anyone else lost a whole batch to something dumb like that?

...and that's how I learned that kombucha makes its own little firework show if you leave it in direct sunlight. I found glass and brown liquid all over my kitchen floor, the ceiling, even somehow on the back of my refrigerator. Took me two hours to clean up and I'm pretty sure my cat is still traumatized from the sound of the third one popping. Honestly felt like I deserved it for thinking I could outsmart basic biology with a window sill.

I read somewhere that heat above 80 degrees basically turns your brew into a pressure bomb because the yeast goes into overdrive. Makes sense now, but at the time I figured a sunny window would just speed things along. A buddy of mine told me he lost a whole gallon to a similar mistake, except his bottles were in a car trunk for an afternoon. Said it looked like a murder scene when he popped the trunk open. Never made that mistake twice, I bet.
