Had to pick between two dog clipper brands for my shop - went with the cheaper one and it backfired

Last month my old Wahl clippers finally died after 5 years. I was looking at two options: the Heiniger Saphir for $200 or a knockoff brand for $80. I figured I'd save the cash and try the cheaper one. Man, after 3 weeks the motor started lagging on thick coats and the blade got hot way too fast. Had to send it back. Now I'm out the $80 plus shipping and I still need to buy the Heiniger. Has anyone else made the mistake of going budget on something that gets heavy use every day?

Used to think name brands were overhyped but this changed my mind completely after similar experiences. Sometimes the extra cost really does buy you reliability and less headache in the long run. Hard lesson to learn but now I just save up for the good stuff first.

Yeah you're totally right about "less headache." I used to think people were just paying for the logo or whatever. Then I bought a cheap coffee maker that died after three months and replaced it with a mid range one that still works five years later. That's when it clicked for me too. What was the thing that finally pushed you over to name brands?
