Found out my favorite local diner uses canned gravy for their biscuits

I was at Mel's Diner in Toledo last Saturday and asked our waitress straight up if they made gravy from scratch. She laughed and said they've used Sysco canned gravy for 15 years. I was honestly shocked because I thought their sausage gravy was the best thing on the menu. Has anyone else ever asked a restaurant a simple question and gotten an answer that totally ruined a dish for you?

Damn that stings, I've been there too! Honestly though, here's what I started doing after getting burned a few times. Just assume everything at a diner or chain place is premade or frozen unless you see them actually cooking it from scratch. Saves you the disappointment. If you really love a place and their food, sometimes it's better to just not ask questions about the specifics. Your enjoyment of the meal matters more than knowing every little thing about how it got to your plate.

Did you ever think that sometimes knowing less is actually better? I used to be one of those people who said "oh I don't care if it's not homemade as long as it tastes good." But then I found out my favorite BBQ place uses liquid smoke instead of actually smoking their meat. It really does change how you look at things once you know. I think there is a certain trust you put in a place when you go there regularly. Finding out they are cutting corners makes you wonder what else they are doing. It's not even about the gravy itself, it's about the feeling that you were tricked into liking something.
