Magnetic stud finder plus a $2 magnet, total game changer
Read about this in a plumbing forum, guy swore by it for old plaster walls. I grabbed a cheap magnetic stud finder at a garage sale for $2, works better than my old electronic one on my 1940s lathe and plaster. Has anyone else ditched the battery powered ones for the simple magnet style?

My house was built in 1948 with the same plaster walls, and I keep a magnetic one in my tool bag for that exact reason. But here's what I've been wondering, how do you handle it when you need to find a stud behind a corner where two walls meet? My magnetic one just slides right past that seam and I end up marking a spot that's actually off by a good inch or two. Do you run into that same issue, or is my method just clumsy?
