Dropped $90 on a cheap wet tile saw and it saved my bathroom reno, $400 version collected dust
So last spring I was tearing out the old tile in my upstairs bathroom, a 5 by 8 room, and I figured I would just rent a saw from the big box store for the weekend. Rental was $70 a day plus blades, and I needed it three days, so that math got ugly fast. On a whim I grabbed a $90 Skil wet saw off the shelf instead, the little 7 inch one, figuring I would just eat the cost if it died on me. That thing chewed through 60 square feet of 12 by 24 porcelain without a single stall, and the cheap blade it came with outlasted the whole job. My neighbor offered me his $400 Rigid to borrow on day two and honestly I never even plugged it in, it was too heavy to haul up the stairs. I still use that little saw for backsplashes and trim cuts, and it has paid for itself about six times over by now. Anyone else find that the cheap tool that everyone trashes online ends up being the one you actually reach for?
Who actually needs the $400 saw for a bathroom? Sounds like you got the right tool for the job. Heavy saws are a pain to drag upstairs and you still have to haul water and make a mess. Small and light wins when you are working in tight spots. My cheap one has cut way more tile than my fancy tools ever did.
