Trying to fix a squeaky floorboard turned into a three day project
I pulled up a board in my bedroom to find the subfloor was rotten near an old pipe leak. What I thought was a two hour fix with some wood glue turned into replacing a whole section of subfloor and sistering a joist. How do you even check for stuff like that before you start?

That's just how home projects go.

Absolutely, it's a universal rule. You go to the hardware store for one specific bracket and come home with three new tools and a plan to re-tile the bathroom. Last weekend I just needed to fix a leaky faucet, which somehow turned into replacing the whole sink cabinet after finding some old water damage. The project scope just grows on its own.

You found a rotten joist? That's way past a simple floorboard fix. I would have lost my mind dealing with that much hidden damage.
