My uncle swore by duct tape for fixing PVC pipes

Last summer my uncle told me to just wrap a leaking PVC joint in duct tape and it would hold for years. I did it, and it actually held for 8 months before bursting at 2 AM and flooding my basement. Anyone else got a quick fix that worked way longer than it should have?

Got three months out of it" - my buddy Tim had a muffler held on with a metal coat hanger for almost a full year before it finally snapped on the highway. Sounded terrible but it worked way longer than any of us thought it would.

Taped a radiator hose with electrical tape once, got three months out of it.
