Finally got the back gate to stop dragging after 3 years of kicking it
Three years ago I hung a cedar gate at my place in Boise and it started dragging on the concrete within a month. I got so used to lifting it with my hip every time I let the dog out that I stopped even noticing I was doing it. Last Saturday I finally took the whole thing off, dug out the hinge screws, and found the top hinge had pulled about a quarter inch out of the post because I never used long enough screws in the first place. Swapped in four 3 inch deck screws and shimmed the bottom hinge with a scrap of flashing, and now it swings with one finger. It took me 40 minutes total, which is about 39 more than I thought it would and way less than the 3 years I put it off. What's the dumbest small fix you sat on way too long?
