Back when furniture fixes were a weekend ritual
I remember my dad spending Saturdays in the garage, sanding and painting old chairs from thrift stores. Now, it feels like everyone just buys new pieces from places that sell boxed furniture. The pride in giving something worn a second chance seems less common, but it builds such a connection to your space. Do you miss that hands-on approach?

That "pride in giving something worn a second chance" is so real. I fixed up a beat-up dresser I found on the curb last year. Sanding it down was a pain, but putting on a fresh coat of paint and some new knobs made it totally mine. Now every time I see it, it feels like I won something. That connection you build is just not there with a flat-pack box.

My neighbor threw out a solid wood bookshelf last spring. After a lot of sanding, it's now the CENTER of my living room and I smile every time I see it.

Ever try a vinegar and oil mix on that wood, @thompson.holly?
