My smart speaker started playing ads for cat food... I don't own a cat.

I got a new smart speaker about 6 months ago and it was fine at first. Last week, it suddenly played a full ad for a specific brand of cat food during my morning news. The only thing I can think of is I was on a video call with my sister and she mentioned her new kitten. Has anyone else had their device listen in on a conversation and then serve ads based on it?

Honestly sounds like a weird coincidence to me. Those things are creepy but they're not that good at targeting ads from random conversations.

Tbh my phone hears me talk about pizza and then boom, pizza ads.
