Deleted my social apps for a week, found a different kind of noise
Last month in Chicago, I turned off all notifications and deleted the apps from my phone, not just logged out. Kept only my messaging and email. The first two days felt like withdrawal, I kept reaching for my phone. By day five, I noticed I was reading full articles instead of headlines, and I actually remembered what I did each evening. Now I'm back on some platforms but with strict time limits, and I'm wondering if anyone else found that the real problem wasn't the content, it was the constant switching. How do you all balance staying connected with your actual life?

...which is hilarious because I've got the attention span of a goldfish on espresso at the best of times. The switching thing hit me hard too, I'd be reading a recipe and suddenly I'm three apps deep looking at someone's vacation photos and my soup is burning. Actually did burn a pot last week, but that's on me, not the algorithm. Now I only check stuff during my bus ride and I swear my brain feels less like a pinball machine. Still can't finish a full article without checking my jeans pocket for my phone though, old habits, you know?
