Still torn between going niche or staying general after 6 years running my agency
Back in 2018 I had to pick between focusing only on ecommerce brands or keeping a mix of local service businesses. I went general and it worked fine for a while but now I feel stretched thin across 4 different industries. Anyone else made the switch to niche and regret it or wish they did it sooner?

Oh man, I've been thinking about this exact thing lately and not just with business. It's like the whole world is pushing us to pick one lane and stay in it. @ryanj60 I get where you're coming from about flexibility but I've noticed something in my own life that applies here. When I try to do too many things at once, like cooking four different cuisines in one week or juggling three hobbies, I end up being mediocre at all of them. The same thing happens with clients. You spread yourself across four industries and suddenly you're the go-to person for none of them. Niche isn't about locking yourself in, it's about digging deeper and becoming the person people actually seek out instead of just another option. The market shifts will happen either way but having a strong reputation in one corner makes you harder to replace than being the jack of all trades who gets swapped out when budgets tighten.

Disagree with the whole niche thing honestly. Going niche just locks you in tighter when the market shifts and suddenly your one industry dries up. I've seen guys who went all in on real estate or restaurants and got wrecked when things slowed down. General might feel stretched but it keeps you flexible and that's worth more than being the "expert" in one small box. Plus you learn way more bouncing between different problems than repeating the same stuff over and over.
