A client in Austin asked me 'What does this metric actually DO for my business?' and it changed how I build reports.

We were looking at a pageview graph and he just stopped me cold. Now I always start with a one-sentence business impact next to every number, like 'This shows if your blog is attracting the right customers.' Has anyone else had a client question that made you totally rethink a basic process?

My friend's client asked "so what?" about a KPI once.

Did your friend have the data to explain why that KPI mattered? A number alone doesn't mean much. You need to connect it to a real business goal, like showing how a higher customer satisfaction score actually leads to more repeat sales. Otherwise, it's just a random figure.

Austin clients have that direct way of cutting through the fluff. Honestly, most business owners just want to know if things are working or not, not get a data science lecture. This feels like basic consulting 101, not a huge revelation.
