Saw a timelapse of a Procreate painting that took 40 hours total

Some artist in the Discord showed a 3 minute timelapse of a dragon portrait they worked on over 3 weeks. Makes me wonder how many layers they actually used for that kind of detail - anyone know if they keep a separate file for the sketch phase?
