My tablet pen died mid-commission and the client saw the whole thing

I was 30 minutes into a live sketch session on Twitch last Saturday for a paying client, and my stylus just stopped responding. The battery was at 40% the night before, but I left it plugged in and it overheated or something, because it would only drag a ghost line. I had to tell the client I needed to reschedule and refunded them half the $80 fee on the spot. Has anyone else had a pen die like that, or is there a reliable way to keep styluses from frying?
