My old art folder was chaos, now I tag everything and it feels weird

I used to save every digital painting into one giant folder named 'stuff' and I would spend 20 minutes hunting for a piece I did in January. Last spring I finally spent a weekend splitting everything into year and project subfolders, plus writing down the program version and brushes I used. The funny thing is, I actually finished a commission faster because I could pull up the exact style I did for a client back in 2022. Does anyone else keep a separate log for their color palettes or am I just getting obsessive with my filing?
