Blew a turbo on a 6.7 Cummins at 3am outside Amarillo and my fix is gonna make some of you mad
Was hauling a load down I-40 last month when I heard the whine change pitch, then the EGT spiked and she lost all power about 20 miles west of Amarillo. Instead of paying the mobile guy $1,800 to swap it on the shoulder, I limped it to a truck stop, pulled the boot off the compressor housing, and found a tiny bent fin on the wheel from a chunk of gasket. My take is half of you are out here replacing whole turbos when a $40 rebuild kit and a rebalance would do the job fine. Anyone else actually rebuilding these at the shop level anymore or is everyone just slapping on new units?
