Rant: my pipeline went from 40 minutes to 6 after I stopped pulling the whole repo on every build
Six months ago our CI runs took about 40 minutes and everyone just accepted it as the cost of doing business, so we kept merging small fixes and waiting. A contractor on our team in Austin pointed out we were cloning the entire repo history on every single build, thousands of commits we never touched. We switched to a shallow clone and cached our dependencies, and that same build now finishes in 6 minutes flat. Nobody said a word for a week because we were all suspicious it was broken. For anyone running slower pipelines, what was the one change that actually moved the needle for you?
