Unpopular opinion: That building inspector saved me $4,000 on a roof job in Hamtramck

I was ready to go with the cheapest quote for a flat roof repair on a commercial building I manage near Joseph Campau. But the inspector pointed out the old membrane had a hidden seam issue that would have leaked again in 6 months. I ended up spending more upfront to do it right, but I've had zero callbacks since. Anyone else ever had a city inspector actually save them money in the long run?

That "hidden seam issue" part really hit home for me. I used to think inspectors were just there to slow things down and nickel and dime you, but you just changed my mind on that.

A good inspector who knows what they're looking at is worth every penny, especially on older houses. I had a buddy skip the inspection on a flip house and ended up with a sewer line collapse that cost him 12 grand. The seam issue is one of those things that's invisible until water finds its way in and starts peeling everything apart. Pay for the inspection, walk with them, ask questions, and you'll save your own hide down the road.
