That tip about building relationships first saved my Detroit accounts
A sales manager named Frank from Corewell told me back in March to stop pitching services on first calls and just listen. I tried it with a building owner on Grand River Avenue, spent 20 minutes asking about their maintenance headaches instead of talking about my company. Three weeks later they called me back to bid on a janitorial contract worth about $2,500 a month. Has anyone else had luck just shutting up and taking notes?

Honestly, that is such a solid piece of advice that more sales people need to hear. Ngl, I've had the same thing happen with a couple of my own accounts where just listening first paid off way bigger than any pitch ever could. It really does show you care about their actual problems, not just your own numbers.

Ugh, yes, the "just listening first" part is so real lol. I've totally been there too, and it just makes the whole conversation feel way more natural.
