Warning: My garage door spring snapped at 6am on a Tuesday
I was heading out to work last week and went to close the garage door when the left spring just let go with a loud bang. The door slammed down crooked and now it's stuck halfway open. Should I try to fix this myself or just call a pro for a spring replacement?

Read somewhere that those springs have crazy tension behind them and can really mess you up if you don't know what you're doing. I'd call a pro, they usually have the right tools and it's not that expensive compared to a trip to the ER.

Learned that one the hard way myself. Tried replacing a garage door spring a few years back and that thing shot across the garage so fast it embedded itself in the drywall about three feet from my head. My wife still brings it up every time I mention fixing something around the house. Ended up calling a professional anyway and he had it done in about an hour with the right tools. Definitely cheaper than my emergency room copay would have been.
