Spent 20 minutes at a tiny diner in Ohio and nobody asked once how my day was

I stopped at this place called Mel's on Route 30 last weekend, and the waitress just brought coffee and took my order without any small talk. It felt weird at first because I'm used to the whole "how are you" song and dance at every restaurant. But honestly, by the time I left I realized I actually preferred it. Has anyone else noticed this trend where some places just skip the chit chat and it works better?

My coworker went to a place in Indiana that had a sign saying "we don't do small talk, just good food" and she said it was the most relaxing breakfast she ever had. She tipped extra because they respected her space.

Did you still tip the same amount?
