My neighbor told me to prune my rose bushes in July and I lost half of them

My neighbor said trimming them in the heat would make them bloom bigger, so I went ahead and cut them back on July 4th weekend. Now the leaves are all yellow and three bushes look dead after two weeks of sun. Should I just dig them up or wait until fall to see if they bounce back?

Wait til fall. Roses are tough, give em time to bounce back.

Wait until fall like @emmam67 suggested, but don't expect much. Pruning in July during a heatwave basically stresses roses into shock, so digging them up now would just waste your time. Mulch them heavily, keep watering, and check for any green at the base around September.
