I thought those 'smart' plant pots were a dumb gimmick, but my basil is thriving

My sister got me one of those self-watering pots with a sensor for my birthday, and I almost returned it. It felt like a $45 waste for a simple herb. I stuck it on my kitchen windowsill with a basil plant as a test, ignoring the app for a week. The pot actually beeped at me when the soil got dry, and the app showed a graph of the moisture level. After a month, my basil is twice the size of the one in my old clay pot. I guess the thing works, but do I really need an app to tell me my plant is thirsty?

Mine saved my fiddle leaf fig, so I'm a believer now lol.

What exactly did it save it from? I've had a fiddle leaf for years and never used one. They mostly just need good light and to not be overwatered. Sometimes these gadgets fix problems we create ourselves.

But what if your home's air is just way too dry for it?
