The 25 cent light switch trick that quieted my noisy ceiling fan
For the last three months my bedroom ceiling fan hummed like a small airplane taking off. I tried tightening the blades, balancing them, even swapped the pull chain. Nothing worked. Then my brother in law came over, looked at it for ten seconds, and told me to check the switch. Turns out the dimmer style switch was sending the wrong voltage to the motor, making it buzz. He swapped it for a basic toggle switch that cost 25 cents at the hardware store. Took him maybe 20 minutes. Fan is dead silent now. Has anyone else dealt with a noisy appliance that turned out to be a simple electrical issue, not the motor itself?
