Rant: I swore by caulk for window trim for 20 years until a contractor in Tucson showed me backer rod

My windows always had drafts and the caulk kept cracking after two seasons, but after he spent 10 minutes showing me how the foam rod seals the gap first, I realized I'd been doing it wrong my whole career, has anyone else had a simple fix like this that made you feel silly for not trying it sooner?

Backer rod isn't really caulk, it's just filler.

Backer rod was a total game changer for me too! I spent years just cramming caulk into huge gaps on patio doors and wondering why it always failed. Soon as I started rolling that foam in there first everything sealed up perfectly and stayed put. Felt like an idiot for not trying it sooner!
