My dad said quit doing dumb voices when I read to my kids, and he was dead wrong
When my daughter was 2, my dad heard me doing a squeaky mouse voice for one of her picture books and told me to knock it off, that kids need to hear the real words plain or they won't learn to read right. I ignored him mostly, but for about 3 months I read everything flat, like a DMV clerk. My daughter stopped bringing me books and started asking for her mom instead, and that hurt more than I expected. So I went back to the goofy voices and now she does them with me, and she is 6 with a bigger vocabulary than half the guys on my line. Anyone else got a parent advice story where the old school way just did not hold up?
