Looking back at my old sticky note password system versus using a password manager now

I had a physical list of about 40 passwords stuck under my keyboard in 2015, but switching to a password manager last fall meant I could finally use strong, unique codes for everything without the panic of losing that one piece of paper.

Remember my buddy who wrote his bank PIN on a sticky note stuck to his debit card? Yeah, he left it at a diner once and someone cleaned out his account before he even got home. That whole mess is what finally pushed me to get a password manager too, because my system was just a notebook in my desk drawer. It feels so much less shaky now, like I can actually make a good password without worrying I'll forget it the next day.

My cousin did the exact same thing with his Netflix password on a Post-it stuck to his laptop. It's wild how common that is. I held out on a password manager for years thinking I could remember everything, but I was just reusing the same three passwords everywhere. Finally switching felt like taking off a backpack full of bricks, no joke. It's one of those things you don't realize is stressing you out until you fix it.
