Am I the only one who made my login password longer and got locked out of everything
Last week I got tired of my 8 character password and switched to a 20 character passphrase on my main email. I typed it wrong twice, got locked out, and spent 40 minutes on the phone with support in Winnipeg to get back in. Turns out my phone keyboard kept autocorrecting one word in the phrase to something else. What finally worked for me was picking a phrase with no real words in it, just letters and numbers I can remember. Has anyone found a way to set long passwords without your own phone fighting you?
Did you try turning off autocorrect just for the password field? On Android you can long press the keyboard settings and kill auto-replace, but the faster fix is making the whole thing random junk so there's nothing to autocorrect. Mine is a dumb string like tr7k9mqx plus a few caps, no real words at all, and my phone has zero suggestions for it. The catch is you have to actually memorize it, so I typed it ten times in a notes app first before changing the real login. Also worth using a password manager so you only type that one long string, and it never goes through your phone keyboard.
