The warranty clerk who saved me $180 with one phone call
Last month I bought a new battery for my truck at a big chain store and it died four days later. I went back ready to argue, but the clerk at the returns counter, a guy named Marcus, didn't even check the receipt first. Instead he called the manufacturer right there and got them to approve a full replacement under warranty, no questions asked. Turns out the store's return policy would have only given me store credit, but the manufacturer's warranty would have given me a check for the full $180 since the battery had a prorated replacement clause. Marcus walked me through the whole thing and even printed the authorization form for me. I never would have thought to call the company myself, I'd have just taken the store credit and lost money. Has anyone else had a store employee go beyond their own policy to help you get a better deal? That kind of service is rare these days.
