That time a cashier saved me $80 without me asking
I was at a big box store in Phoenix last month buying a router and some cables. The cashier looked at my stuff and said, 'You know there's a combo bundle online for $30 less, right?' I didn't even mention a price match. She pulled it up on her own phone, showed me, and then called a manager to override the register. I walked out paying $80 less than the sticker price on the shelf because she took two minutes to check. Has anyone else had a cashier volunteer a discount or deal without you bringing it up first?

$80 off a router and cables? That's a solid discount, but it took a manager override and the cashier doing extra work. I'm guessing that combo bundle online was probably the same thing you had in hand, so the store just matched their own website. It's nice, but it's not like she cracked some secret code or anything. Stuff like this happens all the time at these big stores, they train workers to check for deals to keep people happy. I'd be more impressed if she did it without the manager having to come over and fix the system.
