Debate: Should cashiers have to stay at one register all shift or rotate around?
I worked at a grocery store back in Portland for a bit before nursing. The store had a policy where cashiers stayed at the same register for their whole shift. One day a customer came through my line and complained that the guy at register 4 always seemed grumpy and never smiled. I told her he'd been stuck there for 6 hours straight with no breaks between rushes. She shrugged and said it's his job to be cheerful. That got me thinking. On one hand, staying put means you can organize your station and be efficient. But rotating every couple hours might keep people from getting burnt out or cranky. What do you all think is better for customer service, keeping one person at one register or mixing it up during a shift?

Yeah that totally sucks for him, standing in one spot for six hours is rough.
