Showerthought: I wrote 7 prompts in one sitting last Tuesday and 6 of them were garbage
So last Tuesday I sat down at my kitchen table around 8pm with a coffee and a cheap notebook and knocked out 7 different prompts in about 90 minutes. I felt like a genius. Then I read them back on Wednesday morning and 6 were total junk. Same character, same 'a stranger knocks on the door' opening, same twist ending. Only one survived. That one was about a guy who finds his own name carved into a park bench he has never sat on. I think the junk happened because I was chasing a number instead of chasing a feeling. When I slowed down and wrote prompts about stuff I was actually mad or curious about, they got way better. Does anyone else find that writing a batch of prompts back to back makes them worse, or is that just me?
