I think the 'magic system' trend in prompts has gotten way too rigid

About two years back, most prompts here were just cool 'what if' ideas, like 'what if your reflection started giving you advice'. Now, half the prompts feel like homework, demanding a full rulebook for a magic system before you even write a sentence. I saw a prompt yesterday that spent 8 lines detailing mana types and casting costs. It used to be about sparking a story, not building a video game skill tree from scratch. That shift from open-ended wonder to strict worldbuilding rules kinda kills the fun for me. It feels like we're gatekeeping ideas behind complexity. Has anyone else felt pushed to over-explain their magic instead of just letting a weird, cool story happen?

It's just a different way to play with ideas. Some people really enjoy building those detailed systems, and their prompts reflect that. You don't have to engage with the homework assignments if you don't want to. The open ended prompts are still there if you look for them.

What if the homework is just a way to avoid real talk, @joseph529?
