Rant: My crane job in Venice had a close call with a gondola
Nearly tipped a beam into the canal when that boat rocked sideways.

Honestly, that sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. Tbh, I once nearly dropped a tool box into a lake because I got distracted by a duck. Ngl, it's scary how fast things can go wrong with heavy stuff near water. You must have been sweating bullets when that gondola rocked. Makes me think we all have those moments where luck is the only thing saving us. Glad it was just a close call and not a big mess in the canal.

Man, that duck story hits close to home, @gibson.mila. I read about a bridge crane operator last month who swerved to avoid hitting a bird and almost sent a whole steel beam into a river in some industrial zone. It's wild how one second of looking the wrong way turns into a disaster... just confirms your point about luck being all that's between us and a huge mess.

Yeah that "luck saving us" feeling is real, so now I always double-check my load path before moving anything near water.
