Shoutout to the foreman in Tulsa who caught my rebar spacing error before the pour
Honestly I thought I had layout down cold after 8 years, but a foreman in Tulsa pointed out my rebar was sitting at 14 inches on center instead of 12 on a 4,000 sq ft slab last week. I had been relying on a tape and my eye, no laser, no digital layout tool, and it was off in three spots. He didn't yell, just asked if I had checked with anything besides my Stanley, and that hit harder than any write up. I went back and bought a basic laser distance measurer for $120, and the difference in speed and accuracy is night and day. The craziest part is I had a layout app on my phone the whole time and never used it because I thought it was for the young guys. So now I'm wondering how many other old habits are costing me time and money. Anyone else had a moment where a simple tool made you realize you were doing it wrong for years?
