Paid $200 for a "leak detector" that just beeped at my water heater

Last month in Tucson I bought one of those fancy electronic leak detectors after a plumber quote spooked me. It beeped at every pipe in the house, including the dry ones, and the manual read like a scam script. Anyone else shell out for a gadget that just made the problem louder instead of finding it?
