Hit 50,000 miles on my car and found out the timing chain was never replaced

I was just driving home from work last Tuesday when my check engine light came on at exactly 50,123 miles. Took it to my mechanic in Akron and he said the timing chain was original from the factory. He told me most chains last around 150k but some engines eat them earlier. I had no idea this was even a thing to watch for on my model. Has anyone else hit a weird mileage milestone that tipped them off to a hidden problem?

That "some engines eat them earlier" line from your mechanic is scary. My cousin's Honda needed a new timing chain at 60k, totally unexpected. Did you end up replacing yours right away or wait?

That "hidden problems" thing happens way too often with everything nowadays.
