Swale job outside Boulder taught me to trust the numbers

We poured a 240 foot swale for a new housing development near Boulder last Tuesday and the foreman kept eyeballing the slump instead of the mixing ticket. I stopped him after the third load and made him watch the water gauge climb past the spec, which saved us from a soft section that would have cracked by spring. Has anyone else had a site boss fight you on taking the two extra minutes to check the batch before you finish?
