One superintendent in Tulsa taught me more about finishing than 5 years on my own

Back in 2018 I was doing a warehouse floor outside Tulsa and this older super named Dale came over while I was bull floating. He watched for a minute, then said "you're working the cream too long, let it set up and come back to it." I used to think more floating meant a smoother finish. He made me stop, wait 20 minutes, then hit it once with a magnesium float and the difference was night and day. No trowel machine needed. That one interaction stuck because it changed how I time every pour since. Have any of you had a veteran give you a tip that totally flipped your routine?

Did my best concrete ever come from a guy muttering "let it sit" while I was sweating through my boots?
