A finisher in Tulsa showed me the 'screed first, check twice' move and my flatwork has been dead level since
I was pouring a 30x40 slab for a shop out near Catoosa a few weeks back and this old finisher named Ray was helping me. Right after we pulled the straightedge across, he made me stop and walk the whole thing with a 10 foot screed before we touched a single float. Turned out I had a low spot about 6 feet off the form that would've shown up big once the sun hit it dry. He said he learned it pouring tilt up walls in the 80s and never skipped it since. Now I keep a screed within arm's reach the whole time instead of waiting till the bull float is done. Anybody else got a small habit that saves them on flatwork?
