Update: the $2 shim trick I picked up at the Tacoma repair meetup fixed a wobbling bench vise
I was at the Puget Sound tech swap last Saturday and an old timer showed me how to cut a shim from a beer can to snug up a loose vise jaw, and it held perfectly through 20 boards, so what small hardware hacks do you all keep in rotation?
Did you know I once spent a whole Saturday trying to fix a wobbly vise and ended up making it way worse? Honestly, I felt like a genius cutting that can shim until I sliced my thumb open on the jagged edge. Tbh the vise still wobbles but now it also has a nice blood stain on the handle. Ngl my go to hack is folding a matchbook cover under a loose chair leg, works every time unless your dog eats the matchbook. Which happens more than you would think at my house.
