Guy at the shop in Reno swore by recapping motherboards, and one $40 job almost cost me a client
He kept pushing cap kits for every bulging cap board that came through, and I went along for about 6 months until a customer's media server came back dead twice in 2 weeks. Turned out the board had a cracked trace under the socket and no amount of new caps was gonna fix it, so I ate the return and bought a $120 used board instead. Anybody else get burned chasing the cheap fix before checking the rest of the board?
