Found out my $800 UPS was the reason for random reboots
Been chasing random shutdowns on a customer's server for 2 weeks. Replaced RAM, checked thermals, swapped the PSU. Turns out the UPS was outputting a square wave instead of a sine wave under load. Found it with a $30 kill-a-watt meter and a fluke scope. The battery was 6 years old and the inverter was toast. Never thought to check the UPS first. Anyone else had a backup power unit cause more problems than it solved?
