A retired tech in Denver said skip the thermal paste, just use the stock pad, and my temps dropped 12C
Two years back I was rebuilding a pile of old office Optiplexes and my go-to move was scraping off the stock pad and slapping on Arctic Silver. A retired bench tech in Denver who ran a repair shop for 30 years told me to stop wasting time and just leave the factory pad on. I figured he was lazy, but I tried it on five machines and the cores actually ran about 12C cooler under load than my pasted ones. Now I only repaste when the pad is torn or the heatsink is being swapped. Anyone else notice stock pads holding up better than the cheap paste most shops buy in bulk?
