Overheard a guy on the bus say cyclists don't belong on the road and I had to bite my tongue

Was riding the 42 bus home the other day and this man in a suit was on his phone loudly complaining that bikes slow down traffic and should stick to sidewalks. I've been commuting by bike for 8 years now and I almost spoke up. The truth is most drivers don't realize cyclists have the same legal right to the road as cars do. Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of tension between drivers and cyclists on their daily route?

Sidewalk riding is how you get a pedestrian killed, straight up.

See it differently. Sidewalks are safer than doorzone bike lanes.

Wait he seriously said they should stick to SIDEWALKS? That's actually insane, that's so much more dangerous for everyone involved. I've had people yell at me from their cars before but nobody's ever suggested sidewalks as an alternative, thats just asking for pedestrians to get hit. Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in most cities anyway and for good reason, bikes move way too fast to mix with people walking.
