Shoutout to the 30 foot vis day off Catalina last spring

I was dead set against diving in low vis again after a bad week in the Gulf. Then we hit a 30 foot vis day off Catalina and I saw a whole wolf eel den. Has anyone else had one of those moments that completely turned them around on a certain spot?

Man that wolf eel den sounds absolutely wild. I had a similar thing happen up in Puget Sound after giving up on the vis there - then one day it opened up to 25 feet and I saw a massive lingcod guarding her eggs. Completely changed my mind on that whole area.

Is one good dive really enough to erase a whole string of bad ones though? I've been burned by spots that gave me one amazing day followed by ten weekends of pea soup. That wolf eel den could have been a total fluke with currents or something. My buddy swore by a site in Monterey after one epic day, dragged me out there for a month of nothing but six foot viz and green water. I always figure the bad days are the real story and the good days are just the universe teasing you.
