Rescue line snapped on a wreck in 60 feet, spare line saved the job

Had a lift bag line part on me Tuesday while clearing debris off a barge near Galveston. The rope had looked fine on deck, but the core was rotten from salt and age. I switched to my backup 3/4 inch line and got the job done, but now I'm replacing every sling older than two seasons. Anyone else had a line fail without any visible warning?
